Posting Rules & Prohibited Items

These rules explain how to create listings on Selly and what may not be offered. They apply to every listing posted on our map-based marketplace. Following them keeps Selly safe, useful, and trustworthy for buyers and sellers alike.

Last updated: 25 June 2026

General principles

Selly is a venue that connects buyers and sellers. We are not a party to any transaction and do not own the goods offered. You are responsible for the legality, accuracy, and quality of everything you publish.

Every listing must be honest and complete. Before you publish, make sure it meets the following baseline requirements:

  • Accurate information: describe the item truthfully, including its condition, defects, and key characteristics.
  • Real photos: show the actual item you are selling, taken by you, not images copied from the internet.
  • Correct category: place the listing in the category that best matches the item so buyers can find it.
  • Correct location: pin the listing to the real location of the item; the map position must reflect where it is.
  • Fair price: set a realistic price that you genuinely intend to honour.
  • Right to sell: you must own the item or be legally authorised to sell it, and selling it must be lawful in your jurisdiction.

One item per listing

Each listing should advertise a single item or a single coherent set (for example, a sofa with its matching armchairs). Do not bundle unrelated items into one listing.

  • Do not create duplicate listings for the same item, even across different categories or locations.
  • Do not post near-duplicate listings that differ only slightly (for example, by photo order or wording) to gain more visibility.
  • If you sell several distinct items, create a separate listing for each one.
  • Remove or close a listing once the item is sold or no longer available.

Duplicate and near-duplicate listings clutter the map and may be detected automatically and removed. Repeated duplication can lead to account restrictions.

Prohibited & restricted items

You may not list any item or service that is illegal where you or the buyer are located, or that falls into the categories below. Some items are fully prohibited; others are restricted and allowed only where the law permits and all conditions are met.

  • Weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, and their essential components.
  • Drugs, narcotics, psychoactive substances, and related paraphernalia.
  • Tobacco, alcohol, and other age-restricted products offered to minors or in breach of local rules.
  • Counterfeit goods, replicas, and items that infringe trademarks or copyrights.
  • Stolen goods or any property you do not have the right to sell.
  • Live animals where their sale is restricted, and endangered or protected species and products made from them.
  • Human remains, organs, tissue, blood, or bodily fluids.
  • Prescription medicines, dangerous or unapproved medical products, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Hazardous materials, including toxic, radioactive, flammable, or otherwise dangerous substances.
  • Recalled products and items subject to a safety recall or sale ban.
  • Government-issued IDs, official documents, and other people's personal data.
  • Financial, crypto, investment, pyramid, or multi-level-marketing (MLM) schemes and related solicitations.
  • Adult, sexually explicit, or pornographic content and services.
  • Anything else that is illegal under applicable local, national, or EU law.

If you are unsure whether an item is allowed, do not post it and contact us at [email protected]. We may remove listings and report serious violations to the authorities.

Content rules

Listing text must describe the item clearly and respectfully. The title and description should help buyers understand what is on offer, not manipulate search results.

  • No spam: do not post repetitive, irrelevant, or advertising-only content unrelated to the item.
  • No stuffing: do not place phone numbers, emails, links, prices, or keyword lists in the title.
  • Accurate titles: the title must match the actual item and its real condition.
  • Listing language: write in a language appropriate to your audience (Ukrainian, Russian, or English) so buyers understand the offer.
  • No offensive content: do not include hateful, discriminatory, threatening, or otherwise abusive language toward any person or group.

Photo rules

Photos are the most important part of a listing. They must show the real item so buyers know exactly what they are getting.

  • Use your own real photos of the exact item you are selling.
  • Do not use watermarks, logos, or contact details belonging to other websites or sellers.
  • Do not use stock photos or manufacturer catalogue images as the only pictures; at least one real photo of the item is required.
  • Do not add misleading edits, borders, banners, or promotional overlays to images.
  • Keep photos clear, well-lit, and free of unrelated or offensive content.

Pricing rules

The price you display must be the real price for the item. Honest pricing builds trust and helps the map work fairly for everyone.

  • Show the genuine price you are willing to accept for the item.
  • No bait pricing: do not advertise an unrealistically low price to attract clicks and then quote a different price.
  • Use the correct currency for your location; prices are typically shown in euro (€) or hryvnia (₴).
  • Do not hide mandatory fees or conditions that change the real cost of the item.
  • If an item is free, mark it accordingly rather than using a misleading nominal price.

Paid promotion rules

Selly offers paid promotion to give your listing more visibility on the map and in search results. Promotion changes how often and where a listing is shown, but it does not change the rules that apply to it.

What promotion does

  • Increases the visibility of a compliant listing for a set period.
  • May highlight your listing or place it higher in relevant results.

What promotion does not do

  • Does not exempt a listing from these rules or from moderation.
  • Does not guarantee a sale, a specific number of views, or any particular ranking.
  • Does not allow promotion of prohibited or restricted items.
  • Is generally non-refundable if a listing is removed for violating these rules; see the applicable purchase terms.

Moderation & consequences

Listings may be reviewed before or after they go live, automatically and by our moderators. We may take action on any listing or account that breaks these rules or applicable law.

  • Rejection: a listing may be refused before publication if it does not meet the rules.
  • Removal: a published listing may be hidden or deleted at any time.
  • Edits required: we may ask you to correct a listing before it can be shown.
  • Account restrictions: we may limit posting, promotion, or messaging for repeated or serious violations.
  • Suspension or ban: accounts involved in fraud, illegal activity, or persistent abuse may be suspended or permanently banned.
  • Reporting to authorities: serious or illegal activity may be reported to law-enforcement and competent authorities.

We aim to apply moderation fairly and consistently, but we may act quickly to protect users and comply with the law.

Appeals & reporting

Appealing a decision

If your listing was rejected or removed and you believe this was a mistake, you can appeal. Open the listing in your account to see the reason, correct any issues, or submit an appeal. You may also contact us at [email protected] with the listing link and an explanation; we will review and respond.

Reporting a listing

If you see a listing that breaks these rules, please report it. Use the "Report" option on the listing, or write to [email protected] with the link and a short description of the problem. For data-protection or privacy concerns, contact [email protected]. We review reports and take appropriate action.
